Greetings from YK Pao Primary Library in Shanghai!
We are a Chinese/English bilingual school that aims to build a world-class school for tomorrow’s China, and to educate future leaders on a foundation of academic excellence, firm values and strong character. The majority of our students come from Shanghai, but there are also families that come from France, Singapore, Korea, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and etc.
Our Library is the hub within the Pao community. Many children enjoy reading during their spare time, and parents appreciate our bright space and vast collections that they spend after school hours with their children in the Library. To encourage reading and to share various reading experience, the Library often hosts different programs and activities throughout the year. Book Fairy delivers all kinds of books to our Library according to children’s book wishes. There are several sections, including fiction, young fiction, picture books, listen centre, periodical corner, nonfiction books, graphic novels, and iPad Bay, but nothing is comparable to reading your favourite books with a friend in our Reading Circle.
The Teacher Librarian, Ms. Eleanor, who calls herself the Reader-In-Chief, is often spotted with a book in her hand. Her Library lessons not only equips children with Library skills and knowledge, but also includes several story times and author studies that lead Pao students to numerous adventures inside those awesome authors’ head. Many good books suggestions come from Ms. Eleanor!
YK Pao Primary Library recently joined GiggleIT Project, an international writing program for children to share their stories globally and to see the world through the window of words. The GiggleIT Project is sponsored by the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) and students are encouraged to share their personal knowledge and experiences through stories, poems, jokes and tall tales in ANY LANGUAGE.
