Library Lovers Day is around the corner – what will you be doing?

Love is in the air for libraries all around the world!

In Australia,  February 14th is not only Valentines Day it’s also Library Lovers day. An initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association, Library Lovers Day harnesses the love in the air for Valentine’s day and asks every to show their library a little love. It’s a great opportunity for library advocacy and a lovely chance to have some fun with your community.

Here in the UK a day to celebrate isn’t enough, instead February is a whole month to celebrate:  Library Lover’s month.

I’m no longer based in a library, after moving to London and taking up a role with software company Symplectic, but I’m still a librarian and I believe libraries are more than just spaces. So this year to celebrate, I am taking part in a podcast with a few other ‘librarians outside libraries’ talking about how librarian skills can transcend libraries and contribute to a whole range of other industries.

Are you planning any activities for Library Lovers Day?

If so we’d love to hear about them via Facebook, Twitter or in the comments.

If you are short on ideas, the ALIA website has a great list of suggestions, and someone has even made a Pinterest collection for the crafty amongst us.

Happy Library Lovers Day everyone.
