I am the Coordinator Library Services here at the newly formed Bayside Council and am lucky enough to work in the brand new Rockdale Library. We opened to much fanfare on July 30 this year with other 3,000 people coming through our doors on our first day. I love the natural light and the the large open spaces and its wonderful to watch our community use the library intuitively, the way the design was intended. I also love our children’s forest. It encourages reading and I love watching families crawl into the reading nooks and read to each other. It makes a huge difference to work in a new library and I feel lucky to have the opportunity and work with such an amazing team.

Thanks Paula, we’re especially thrilled to see photos from the new library as we’ve been following this story for a few years now.

Would you like to send us a postcard from your library? Find out how…

  1. Wow! When I was a little girl, we used to visit Rockdale Library (we had to pretend to live with my grandmother in Arncliffe, as our council, Kogarah, didn’t yet have a library). The building I remember was a tiny demountable – such a difference in under 50 years!

  2. and about time too! My memories of Rockdale Library is in an old building on the high way, was it the town hall and attached buildings. So dark and uninspiring.
    Wow what a transformation
    Well done.

  3. Wow! What a nice ambiance for kids with great imagination, it would be a paradise. We are just in the first step for our library renovation and I wish and pray that an architect with so much passion for learning common will be able to design and create something like this.
