Today’s postcard comes from Brett Williams, the ILN Social Media Coordinator (LinkedIn):
2015 has been a year of big changes for me. In August 2015 I left the College of the North Atlantic – Qatar where I started volunteering for the ILN and took a contract position at the University of Toronto – Mississauga as the GIS/Data Librarian. As a Systems Librarian this was a major change for me as I took on vastly more Information Literacy work with the geography department.
Mississauga is a suburb of Toronto, and has a very different climate than Doha Qatar. While the view out my window used to show palm trees and sand, I now have oak trees and snow. I am working extensively with students across a huge variety of courses and re-adjusting to life in Canada.
I’ve been keeping my Systems Librarian skills sharp by volunteering with a local LGBTQ organization to get their library
automated with Koha. The library student doing the day to day work was able to present a poster session at the recent Ontario Library’s Association conference.
