What is one new thing you want to START doing in 2014?
I plan to learn more about Australian copyright. I am an academic librarian and serve the creative types (artists, designers, etc) at my university.  Many of my clients struggle with how to be compliant with Australian copyright laws while still being able to do their work. While I have no plans to go to law school any time soon I’d like to be able to at least know where to send them to find the answers they need.

What is one thing you want to try doing DIFFERENTLY in 2014?
I want to use email more effectively. Much has been written about how distinctive email can be and it can stand in the way of productivity.  So I am turning off email notification and I also plan to completely close my email when I’m working on a task that needs my full attention. There, I’ve said it and I feel better about it. I also, hopefully, plan to be better about filing emails after I have actioned them. Here’s to being an email ninja in 2014!

What is one thing you want to STOP doing in  2014?                                                                        I plan to stop over apologizing at work. Again, much has been written about women and apologizing in the workplace (Google it, you’ll be blown away) and I’m as guilty as the next woman. I counted one day and found that I started 6 conversations with a ‘sorry’. And that was even before lunch time! Now don’t get me wrong, if I commit a transgression I will take responsibility for it, but it’s the over apologizing I’d like to cut out of my work life. If I get an email from someone at 5pm and I don’t get back to them until the morning I don’t need to start the email with ‘sorry I’m just getting back to you…’.
