2. What is one thing you want to try doing differently in 2014?

In 2014 I want to get better at documenting day-to-day activities. At the moment in my day job, and even with the ILN there are a number of activities that are depending on me because I’m not only the one who knows how to do them but because I’m the one that knows that they even need to be done and why. As any knowledge managers out there would tell you, this is a fairly risky state of affairs so I need to get better about not just doing it because it’s easy but about taking the time to pass on the knowledge and sometimes even delegate the tasks so they can happen without me.

3. What is one thing you want to stop doing in 2014?

Like Clare, in 2014, for the first time in a number of years I won’t be studying. I’ve been completing my Master of Arts in Information and Knowledge Management parttime for the last few years and it is finally done. So I’m going to stop studying for a while and make use of the time in lots of new ways. It doesn’t mean I plan to stop learning. I will keep up my professional development through activities like the ILN, professional research and reading  – I just don’t need to write any essays for a while.

I also need to try and stop overloading my life for a bit in 2014. I love new opportunities and find myself saying ‘Yes’ before I’ve really thought things through. This brings lots of exciting things my way but can be a bit exhausting and isn’t sustainable in the longer term.

1. What is one new thing you want to start doing in 2014?

You might have noticed that I’ve changed the order of these questions. That’s because for me, the first part of 2014 will be focussed on doing things differently and stopping other things so that I can make space in my life for some new things. They were lots of big new things in 2013 (like launching the ILN) and I want 2014 to be full of them too. But I’m not quite ready to pick one because, when I do, I want it to be really awesome and worth the time in my already busy life. So watch this space!

  1. 2014 LIBRARY RESOLUTIONS: Muhumuza Emmy Medard

    1. What is one new thing you want to start doing in 2014?

As the library budget for FY 2014/2015 sets in, i have included in establishing an Institutional Repository for the scholarly output of the University. I hope this will enhance visibility of the University on global webometrics.

    2. What is one thing you want to try doing differently in 2014?

As a coordinator for electronic resources on the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) for my library, i want this time to make sure that our users have constant access to these resources as we have increased the subscription funds. More databases will will be provided so that our users have a variety of choices.

    3. What is one thing you want to stop doing in 2014?

Like my colleagues Kate and Clare, i want to give studies a break after submitting my Thesis for the Masters of Science in Information Science this coming march so that i can concentrate on more pertinent issues regarding the library. My topic is: Developing a framework for an integrated library system. Actually this is library automation.
I will this time maybe embark on writing a conference paper for IFLA if time allows. I will also attend the SCECSAL conference this June in Malawi.
